Our role:

Manage the data, voice and audio / visual networks supporting NIBRs research facilities as well as various partner divisions within Novartis. Act as the NIBR representative at Novartis global network forums, liaising with key corporate leaders and Novartis service partners. Provide the stability and innovation required to support a world class IT infrastructure, thereby giving NIBR scientists an advantage amongst their research peers.

It is ultimately the talent of the individual that determines the projects success, while our state-of-the-art technologies and resources enable these ideas to be realized.This position will lead the Network Operations team, reporting to the Head of U.S. Research Computing Platforms (RCP US). This role is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The data network, voice network and audio / visual teams will report directly to this position, and its team members are largely based in Cambridge today. Additional network operations resources will be added to NIBRs Basel, Switzerland and Emeryville, California locations, and will be managed by this position.



A key requirement for this role is the ability to coordinate both day to day operations and complex projects with the Corporate IT group within Novartis. NIBR leverages this Corporate IT group for key services such as the wide area network, security, email and G&A applications (e.g. ERP, CRM). Additionally, this role is a core member of the RCP US senior management team and is required to collaborate with the other core members to provide solutions at a rapid pace. The successful candidate will bring network expertise that other team members, and the head of RCP, can leverage in order to focus on their own challenges. This role will also interface with the Information Security (ISEC) team at NIBR on critical security initiatives.



A comprehensive knowledge of sophisticated data network systems, voice over IP, network design and architecture, audio / visual technologies, and data security is a must for this position. Core research applications run out of NIBRs four current data centers, with scientists and other users spread across six locations, making the network a key element to computing success. The ability to regularly review existing architectures with an eye on improvement is essential in this fast moving environment. Our scientists requirements change rapidly and this role needs to provide solutions in anticipation of future research needs.



A proven ability to lead a successful multidisciplinary team is also a key requirement. The ideal candidate will have experience mentoring team members, and he/she will be able to demonstrate how they have aligned team strengths, within a group of technically minded professionals, to achieve business goals. Like many IT groups, the Network Operations group will benefit from streamlined processes, and we are looking for the right Director who can balance process management, innovation, and corporate governance models.



Candidates will have previous detailed experience with vendor management at their prior positions; particularly in the area of establishing vendor partnerships that have improved their environments in a cost effective manner.
