Network Engineer

Boston financial services firm is seeking a Network Engineer to ensure reliability and stability of the firm’s systems and network infrastructure. Will analyze and resolve hardware/software issues and provide training as necessary. The Network Engineer will: 

• Setup up LANs, WANs and wireless networks – servers, routers, switches etc.


• Configure networks to ensure reliable operation


• Generate/maintain documentation regarding network configuration, systems, processes and service records


• Ensure network connectivity


• Manage servers (database, email, print and backup)


• Maintain network component inventory and technical specifications information


• Monitor and test network performance; provide network performance statistics and reports


• Manage all firm wide backups; back up LAN/WAN/Storage/Appliances/Firewall


• Manage all network security solutions

 Candidates must have the following qualifications for consideration: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering


• 4 years of related experience


• Cisco and Microsoft Certifications a plus


• Solid understanding of LAN, WAN, WLAN, design and implementation


• Experience with network security principles and general network management


• Strong knowledge of AD, network and PC operating systems including Windows 2003 and XP


• Working knowledge of current network, hardware, protocols and internet standards


• Previous experience managing Exchange servers


• Support experience with enterprise backup software


• Knowledge of data privacy practices and laws


• Ability to conduct research


• Linux experience is preferred


• Experience with VmWare, NAS and SAN as well as Altiris is desired
