Job Description
We are seeking a Mid-Level Data Center Operations Specialist for a Data Center. Employee will be responsible for monitoring systems, coordinating maintenance activities, managing material & service deliveries, and ensuring continuity of operations for a High Performance Computing (HPC) environment. Position requires frequent collaboration with diverse program teams, suppliers, and Boeing services.  Primary Responsibilities:

  • Staffed Operations: Follow established processes for opening, securing, & closing the HPC data center, performing systems checks, monitoring systems, escalating issues, managing supplier tickets, supporting video teleconferencing, answering telephones, and authoring daily technical reports.  Operating hours are between 4am and 8pm local time.  Hours currently needed are between 12pm – 8pm.


  • Tape handling: Import & export of tapes from robotic silos, filing & inventorying media, preparing media for shipping, updating records for media movement.


  • Removable Storage handling: Mounting & unmounting storage media (e.g. disks and RAID packs) and preparing media for shipping. Note: individual pieces weigh up to 35 pounds.


  • Security processes: Initiating & shepherding security processes for moving equipment into or out of the data center, updating security records for media (e.g., disk, tape) inventory and destruction purposes.


  • Escorting: Following security processes for escorting support personnel, maintenance personnel, facilities personnel, etc. while they are working within the data center.


  • Employee is also responsible for overseeing all activities that occur on the Operations floor.  Responsibilities include the requirement to maintain service levels and continuous operations of HPC job queues, web services, and video teleconferences. Desire a candidate with knowledge & experience working with multiple operating systems, troubleshooting, performing root cause analysis, following operational procedures, and escalating & managing issues (e.g., trouble tickets) with suppliers.

This position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): 

  • Active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation completed or updated in the past 5 years.
  • DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II certification or better (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE) - Pre-start

Desired Qualifications (Preferred Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelors Degree in engineering, science or related technical discipline
  • Experience working with Windows, RedHat Linux, and Solaris/Unix operating systems.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience working in a communication rich and dynamic environment requiring high situational awareness.
  • Experience working well with others; cross-functionally, via phone support, in escalation and/or reporting up, and within teams.




Typical Education and Experience: Technical bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' or a PhD degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A technical degree is defined as any four year degree, or greater, in a mathematic, scientific or information technology field of study.
