Develop infrastructure to support ongoing evaluation of KPWA's regional hospital performance based on safety, clinical quality, patients' perception of care, and affordability.   Develop processes for ongoing collaboration and transparency with KPWA EPRO group to maximize hospital bed utilization.  Build systems and processes to repatriate members to KP follow-up care upon discharge from hospitals.  In partnership with PIC, manage hospitalist team relationships with partner hospitals.  Create collaborative relationships with KP primary care, post-acute care, specialty care, and care management to ensure safe, effective transitions of care for members.  Management of the hospitalists' administrative staff.  Create and lead sustainable processes for hospitalist schedules and accurate productivity reporting.  Form relationships with peer colleagues in other KP regions to glean best practices from the enterprise.  Lead projects critical to the ongoing success of KPWA strategic plan such as Care Without Delay implementation.  Coordinate and co-lead implementation efforts at new rounded partner hospitals.  Monitor and improve use of information technology to support hospitalist business processes (secure texting, scheduling software, tableau dashboards, professional billing).


Essential Responsibilities:
Care Delivery

  • Develop infrastructure to support ongoing evaluation of KPWA's regional inpatient performance based on safety, quality, safety, patient experience, and affordability

  • Build systems and processes to support safe, effective transitions of care emphasizing the importance of in-network follow up upon discharge from hospitals

  • Create collaborative relationships with care management, KP primary care, post-acute care, and specialty care to support patients across the continuum of care

  • Monitor and improve use of information technology to support care delivery e.g. secure texting

  • Increase the availability of care by KP hospitalists via coordination and co-lead implementation efforts at new rounded partner hospitals


Utilization Management

  • Coordinate provider orientation and ongoing training on utilization management goals including Care Without Delay

  • Supervise monitoring tools that measure individual and team progress e.g. the Hospitalist Dashboard


Operations and Provider Development

  • Management of the hospitalists' administrative staff

  • Create and lead sustainable processes for hospitalist schedules and accurate productivity reporting


  • Monitor and improve use of information technology to support hospitalist business processes


Networking / Public Relations

  • In partnership with Regional PICs, manage hospitalist team relationships with partner hospitals

  • Within KPWA, oversee publication of hospitalist service line achievement articles in widely distributed reports (e.g. Steve Tarnoff's Vital Signs)

  • Form relationships with peer colleagues in other KP regions to glean best practices from the enterprise


Basic Qualifications:
Experience
Minimum five (5) years of work experience in consulting, operations or project management required.
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Health Care Administration, Operations Research, Public Health Administration, or other related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.


  • High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) is required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated performance in strategic/operational analysis and planning, analytical techniques, financial and market assessments.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the intricacies of hospital/HMO/medical offices operations and practices.

  • Superior communication, consulting, facilitation, negotiation, conflict management, problem resolution, change management skills and consensus building skills. Superior leadership and project management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to bring projects/initiatives to completion. Ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities in managing a wide range of projects.

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Eight (8) years of consulting, operations or project management.

  • Master's degree in Administration, Economics, Health Care Administration, Operations Research, Public Health Administration, or other related field OR six (6) years of experience in a directly related field.
